TRISP ONE YEAR INTRODUCTORY SERIES The TRISP (Training and Research in Self Psychology) One Year Introductory Series is a continuing education series designed for those interested in learning what self psychology and the theory of intersubjectivity contribute to a contemporary understanding of people, their behavior, and their inner experience. It is open to clinicians as well as a general audience; accordingly, no license is required. The complete series consists of four courses: two Fundamentals courses and two Special Topics courses. The Fundamentals courses are an introduction to the key concepts of self psychology in the first semester, followed by an introductory course on the theory of intersubjectivity in the second semester. The Special Topics courses are chosen from a pool of course offerings, ranging from a self-psychological understanding of trauma to the self psychology of everyday life. Participants design individualized programs based on personal preference and availability of courses. Courses are offered on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 PM. Depending on enrollment we may offer a Friday morning section as well. Students may choose to take one course per semester, (initially one of the Fundamentals courses), or several courses (Fundamentals and one or more Special Topics). All classes are held in private offices in Manhattan. Having successfully attended the complete series of courses in the TRISP One Year Introductory Series, students may continue to take Special Topic courses. These offerings will be expanded based on requests from participants and faculty interest. Alternatively, licensable therapists may feel ready for a deeper immersion in the study of self psychology and intersubjectivity, and move on to the TRISP Advanced Series in Self Psychology and Intersubjectivity. The TRISP One Year Introductory Series is thus either a self-contained introduction to self psychology and the theory of intersubjectivity, or it is the first step in a continued study of the field. TRISP ADVANCED SERIES The TRISP Advanced Series is a continuing education series designed for those interested in expanding their psychoanalytic knowledge base with the theories of self psychology and intersubjectivity. Clinicians who have been introduced to self psychology and intersubjectivity will deepen their understanding; those who are newer to the theories will gain a comprehensive understanding of the theories and their applicability in the clinical setting. It is open to licensable clinicians who have completed a one- or two-year post-graduate psychotherapy program as well as licensed clinicians with three or more years of post-graduate clinical practice. The complete series consists of four courses: two theory courses and two applied courses. The theory courses explore the foundations of self psychology in the first semester and intersubjectivity in the second semester. The applied courses include a study of fundamental concepts in self psychological and intersubjective treatment (including empathy, transference, and resistance) and a case seminar course. Licensed therapists who are interested in expanding their training through clinical supervision may arrange for private supervision. Furthermore, participants who complete the Advanced Series and one year of private supervision with approved supervisors are eligible to apply to the Masters Level Series. All participants in the Advanced Series are eligible to take TRISP Special Topics Courses in Self Psychology and Intersubjectivity at the TRISP member rate. All TRISP members are eligible to take courses in any one year series at the reduced member rate. |
Courses are offered Wednesday evenings at 7:30 PM. All classes are held in private offices in Manhattan. Depending on enrollment we may open a Friday morning section for those who cannot make an evening class. Participants will study self psychological and intersubjective reformulations of the central concepts in psychoanalysis: the listening stance of the therapist, the analytic situation, transference and countertransference, resistance and defense, dreams and the unconscious. In theory classes participants will focus on the most central papers in the self psychology and intersubjectivity literature and in small group discussions participants will apply the theories to their work, thereby developing a firm understanding of an intersubjectively conceptualized self psychological treatment. The Masters Level Series is open to licensed mental health practitioners who have completed a four-year psychoanalytic training program and to qualified clinicians who have a minimum of ten years post-graduate clinical practice. The complete series consists of four courses: two theory courses and two case discussion courses. The theory courses take the student from the core texts in self psychology and intersubjectivity through to the most current writings shaping the discourse in the field today, including the relationships among self psychological, intersubjective and relational theories. The case discussion courses provide opportunities for in-depth peer discussion of case material. All courses are taught by the most senior TRISP faculty. Students who are interested in expanding their training through clinical supervision may arrange for private supervision. All participants in the Masters Level Series are eligible to take TRISP Special Topics Courses in Self Psychology and Intersubjectivity at the TRISP member rate. All TRISP members are eligible to take courses in any one year series at the reduced member rate. Courses are offered Wednesday evenings at 7:30 PM. All classes are held in private offices in Manhattan. Depending on enrollment we may open a Friday morning section for those who cannot make an evening class. TRISP ALUMNI ASSOCIATION The TRISP Alumni Association (TAA) was formed to further the cohesiveness and vitality of the TRISP community by providing ongoing networking and learning opportunities for our graduates. The TAA is dedicated to fostering the intellectual needs of our candidates post training and providing collegial connection through educational opportunities such as: workshops, presentations and ongoing support for graduates engaged in writing for professional publication. We encourage and support TRISP alumni who wish to develop their own ideas for post-training opportunities.
